THE TOTAL HORIZONS STORY
Our Founders Why
My photography trip to Utah was more of an escape, trying to start my life again after losing my son Jacob to a drug overdose.
For years, my son Jacob was struggling to try to find his way as a young adult. He was feeling lost, incompetent, and was clearly on the wrong path. He was prescribed a variety of pain medications for chronic pain, which he began to abuse. After being restricted from these medications, he moved on to harder drugs, including heroin.
When Jacob was 20 years old, I became aware of his heroin use. I was relieved and hopeful when he agreed to go to a treatment center in California. He came home, and we planned to meet the following day, but in less than 12 hours, he was gone forever from a prescription drug overdose.
Jacob’s birth date was 1/21/94. This is where our 121 Elite product line gets its name.
The fact is this is now my truth, my life, and my why. Like most people touched by a tragedy, it goes one of two ways: it destroys them or makes them stronger and sets them on a mission.
To be transparent, I came extremely close to completely unraveling and giving up. It was at times, and can still be, a mental roller coaster of emotions. It has taken me some time to process, as the loss of a child is not something quickly resolved.
WHAT WAS MY MOTIVATION TO START THIS?
My motivation and passion go far beyond our products, but this is not about me anymore. Total Horizons is focused on lending support to people struggling with drugs and alcohol. It is in their time of struggle we should concentrate on roots and cause solutions. As a company, we believe it’s our responsibility to give back and make a positive difference. As we grow we will expand our outreach to other areas.
GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
We pride ourselves in being a company that is not just profit driven, but genuine in our resolve to help and change communities. We have decided to donate a portion of our profit to The Freedom Model. They focus on breaking the chains of the endless addiction and recovery cycle.
I shared my story so you can see and feel what drives me. My hope is that you understand my passion and join us on this mission.
